Women on the mat recognizes the growing popularity and participation of women in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. There now exist some well known and well respected female competitors like Leticia Ribeiro, Penny Thomas, Beatriz Mesquita, Kyra Gracie, and Gabrielle Garcia to name a few. Evidence of such can be found with a simple google search for women in jiu jitsu. There is also a burgeoning grassroots effort to promote women only focused competition and trainings. Women on the mat seeks to build community and support for the sport of jiu jitsu especially among girls and women. It’s our hope that jiu jitsu will one day be an olympic sport and a competition sport taught in schools across the country. Jiu jitsu teaches, as does many martial arts, discipline, confidence, meditation, focus, and self defense. Our site is content driven and our goal is to build community and raise awareness about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu among women and girls around the world. If you are holding a women’s only camp/seminar/ open roll/tournament we want to know. If you are interested in doing a camp let us help you set it up. We want your feedback and we look forward to seeing you on the mat. Happy rolling. Please like us on facebook.
